This lesson demonstrates how to apply ripples to water. To work along, download the start image Here. Unzip the file and open the image onto Photoshop’s workspace.
Undo and Navigation Steps Two ways of undoing steps are from the top menu, Edit then Step Backwards. Alternatively, click a previous snapshot in the History Palette.
Navigate (zoom in and pan) your image using the Navigator Palette,
or the Zoom Tool.
Activate The Hand Tool by tapping the Spacebar, keeping the Spacebar pressed, pan your image in the usual way. 1/ Open your start image onto Photoshop’s workspace - then expand its grey workspace by dragging out one of its corners.
2/ Now, from the left-side toolbar, activate the Elliptical Marquee Tool.
And set the following attributes into its Option bar.
3/ Then drag out an elliptical selection marquee, where you want your ripple to be.
4/ Now, from the top menu, choose Filter then choose Distort then choose ZigZag. In the subsequent ZigZag dialogue box, set the following attributes, then click OK.
Note Always experiment with the Amount and Ridges settings, and discover how they alter the look of your water ripple. Additionally, alter the ripple’s size to match (any) natural ripples already in your photograph.
5/ When you are happy with your ripple, press Ctrl then D to remove the marquee - (applying more ripples if needed). Then save your work.
