This tutorial demonstrates how to create, save, then apply textures. To work along, download the start texture image Here. Unzip the file and open it onto Photoshop’s workspace.
Undo and Navigation Steps Two ways of undoing steps are from the top menu, Edit then Step Backwards. Alternatively, click a previous snapshot in the History Palette.
Navigate (zoom in and pan) your image using the Navigator Palette,
or the Zoom Tool. 
Activate The Hand Tool by tapping the Spacebar, keeping the Spacebar pressed, pan your image in the usual way. 
1/ Open a highly textured photograph onto Photoshop’s workspace.
2/ Put the texture image to one side, then open a New document with the exact measurements demonstrated below.
3/ Now, with the Move Tool, drag the texture image onto the transparent document, then resize the texture so it fits inside the document, exactly - using the Free Transform Tool - Lesson. 
Tip Apply a Sharpening filter to the texture image - Filter then Sharpen.
4/ Now, from the top menu, choose Image then choose Adjustments then choose Channel Mixer; set the following attributes, then click OK.
5/ From the top menu, choose Layer then choose Flatten Image.
6/ You have created your texture, and it is time to save it. Important! Save this desaturated texture as a .PSD file - it must be saved as a .PSD file. Saving files lesson - Here!
Tip To save PC resources, close the original, and desaturated texture images.
Note It is important that you save this .PSD file to a memorable folder. Additionally, if you are planning to create lots of textures, create a new folder and name it My Photoshop Textures - or something similar.
After you have saved your desaturated texture file, you are ready for the next step.
7/ Apply your texture Open a photograph onto Photoshop’s workspace.
8/ Then from the top menu, choose Filter then choose Texture then choose Texturiser. In the subsequent Texturiser dialogue box, click the following Load Texture arrow.
In the subsequent Load Texture dialogue box, navigate to the folder you have just saved your .PSD texture to, and click to highlight the file.
Then click the Open tab.
After you have clicked Open, your new texture will display in the following Texture menu. Play with different settings using the left-side preview as a guide, and when you are happy with your Texture, click OK.

9/ You have created and applied your texture, note, when you next use the Texturiser filter, you will find your new texture has been included in the Texture list. If you wish to permanently save your texture, back up the .PSD file.
