This tutorial demonstrates how to colourise dull seascapes. To work along, you can download the image I am working with Here. Unzip the file and open it onto Photoshop’s workspace.
Undo and Navigation Steps Two ways of undoing steps are from the top menu, Edit then Step Backwards. Alternatively, click a previous snapshot in the History Palette.
Navigate (zoom in and pan) your image using the Navigator Palette,
or the Zoom Tool. 
Activate The Hand Tool by tapping the Spacebar, keeping the Spacebar pressed, pan your image in the usual way. 
1/ Open your image onto Photoshop’s workspace.
2/ Then set the Foreground and Background colours to the following. 3/ Duplicate your layer by dragging it over the following Create a new layer icon.
4/ Now, working on the duplicated layer, from the toolbar, activate the Gradient Tool.
Then set the following Foreground to Background gradient.

Press your Shift key, then stretch a gradient line from the top of the image, to the bottom.

5/ To change the gradient’s look, from the Layers palette, change the Blend Mode from Normal to Overlay.
Note Play with different Blend Modes to see how they change the gradient’s appearance. Additionally to fade the colour, reduce the gradient layer’s Opacity.

 6/ When you are satisfied with your result, from the top menu, choose Layer then choose Flatten Image, then save your work
