This lesson demonstrates how to create a window-blinds shadow effect, utilising the Halftone Line Pattern Filter. To work along, you are welcome to download the start image Here. Unzip the file and open the image onto Photoshop’s workspace.

Undo and Navigation Steps Two ways of undoing steps are from the top menu, Edit then Step Backwards. Alternatively, click a previous snapshot in the History Palette.
Navigate (zoom in and pan) your image using the Navigator Palette,
or the Zoom Tool. 
Activate The Hand Tool by tapping the Spacebar, keeping the Spacebar pressed, pan your image in the usual way. 
1/ Open your start image onto Photoshop’s workspace.
2/ Then duplicate the Background layer by dragging it over the following Create a new layer icon - and work on the Background copy layer.
3/ Now, press your keyboard’s D key to set the default Foreground and Background Black and White colour swatches. 
Note The Halftone Pattern colours, represent the Foreground and Background swatches.
4/ From the top menu, choose Filter then choose Sketch then choose Halftone Pattern. In the subsequent dialogue box, set the following attributes - or experiment with the settings, then click OK.
Note Settings depend on your image’s resolution, and the look you are seeking.

5/ Now, from the Layers palette, change the Blend Mode from Normal to Multiply, and reduce the Opacity to around 81%. Play with different Blend Modes and Opacities to discover a look you like.

6/ If necessary, remove areas of “shadow” that fall behind the model, using the Eraser Tool; setting the brush to a small, medium-strength.
7/ When you are happy with the look of your image, from the top menu, choose Layer then choose Flatten Image, and your work is ready to save.
