This tutorial demonstrates how to create instant drama - or to liven dull photographs, by inverting colours. To work along, you can download the image I am working with Here. Unzip the file and open it onto Photoshop’s workspace.
Note Different photographs have different pixels (colours), and will always react uniquely; therefore, experiment with different images to see if they can be improved.
Undo and Navigation Steps Two ways of undoing steps are from the top menu, Edit then Step Backwards. Alternatively, click a previous snapshot in the History Palette.
Navigate (zoom in and pan) your image using the Navigator Palette,
or the Zoom Tool.
Activate The Hand Tool by tapping the Spacebar, keeping the Spacebar pressed, pan your image in the usual way. 1/ From the top menu of Photoshop, choose File then choose Open. Navigate the subsequent Open dialogue, locate, then highlight the photograph of your choice, and click Open. Your choice of photograph will then open onto Photoshop’s workspace.
2/ From the top menu, choose Image then Adjustments then choose Invert. Alternatively, press Ctrl then I.
3/ Optional To add further drama, press Ctrl then L to activate Levels.
Levels lessons Here and Here.
In the subsequent Levels dialogue box, change the Channel setting from RGB to Red. Then grab the Grey point and drag it to the left. This oversaturates red pixels.
4/ Finish by applying a Texturiser effect to your image, Lesson, then save your work.
