I am very impressed with PaintShop Pro X4’s appearance and performance, and personally, I love the dark grey (graphite) workspace, as it displays open documents at their best.
Being familiar with Photoshop and Photoshop Elements, I am used to tabbed document browsing; however, students who don’t like (or can’t get used to) tabbed image browsing,
can disable tabbed document browsing.
During my 30 day trial, I found performance was good using my four and a half year old
PC. Applications and commands ran smoothly and didn’t slow down my PC in any way. There’s lots of help for beginners and the printed handbook is especially helpful. However, if like myself, you’re an experienced Paint Shop Pro user, there’s enough new filters, plugins and commands (especially the KPT collection given as a thank you for registering PaintShop Pro X4); to keep curious minds amused, interested and satisfied.
This is the first time I’ve been fired-up enough to recommend the latest PaintShop Pro version. In my opinion, I would say (in terms of performance and value for money); that the upgrade is worth the cost. However, don’t take my word for it, download the 30 day free trial, and decide yourself.
I have since upgraded to PaintShop Pro X4, and as my family can attest, I am really excited with the prospect of loading up my personal Picture Tubes, Picture Frames, Gradients, Patterns, Plugins, Masks, Textures, Preset Shapes, Brushes, Scripts and Selections.
My Do Not Disturb sign is securely hanging on my office door, (Sacha is curled up in her bed next to me), and I am off to play.

December 2011 - Service Pack 1 Released! (Corel PaintShop Pro 14.1.05)
Corel released PaintShop Pro X4 Service Pack 1, which addressed the following issues. (Please Click Here To Read Corel’s Service Pack 1 Release Notes).
Service Pack 1 (SP1) which is 230 megabytes, gives users the option of changing the Workspace Background Colour to either of the following colours; Default Dark Grey, Medium Grey, Light Grey, or Blue.
In addition to changing the Workspace Colour, users who have installed SP1 now have Colourised Icons set by default - as demonstrated below.
Although I didn’t experience problems with the installation, (it was smooth and relatively quick), and I didn’t require the original CD - (Corel states on its website that you may need the original PaintShop Pro X4 CD to complete the upgrade): please take a moment to read Corels’ SP1 notes before installing PaintShop Pro X4’s Service Pack 1 on your computer.
