This lesson demonstrates how to create rainbow type.
Undo and Navigation Steps Two ways of undoing steps are from the top menu, Edit then Step Backwards. Alternatively, click a previous snapshot in the History Palette.
Navigate (zoom in and pan) your image using the Navigator Palette,
or the Zoom Tool.
Activate The Hand Tool by tapping the Spacebar, keeping the Spacebar pressed, pan your image in the usual way. 1/ Open a New document; setting a Height and Width of your choice. If you are printing your work, set a higher Resolution.
Then extend its grey workspace by dragging out one of its corners.
2/ From the left-side toolbar, activate the Horizontal Type Tool.
Apply Type Tutorial Here. Fiolex Girls Font Here.

And apply your choice of text; repositioning it with the Move Tool.
I am leaving plenty of room for my type’s reflection.
3/ Now, press and hold Ctrl. Then left-click (once), over the type’s layer thumbnail - as indicated below-left. This isolates your type with a selection marquee.
4/ From the top menu, choose Layer then choose Rasterise then choose Type.
5/ Then from the toolbar, activate the Gradient Tool.
Apply Gradients Tutorial Here - Chapter 6.
And from the gradient’s Options bar, pick a gradient of your choice, and double-left-click to activate it - I am utilising a Spectrums gradient.
For personal results, experiment with different gradient orientations.
Now, left-click and stretch a gradient line in the direction you would like your gradient to fall - when you release the mouse button, your gradient will be applied.
When you are happy with your rainbow’s colour and orientation, you are ready for the next step. Take a little time to experiment with different styles, and find a gradient you like.
6/ Press Ctrl then D to remove the selection marquee.
7/ Now, click the (f or fx), Add a layer style icon, found at the foot of the Layers palette, and set the styles of your choice. My tutorial Here demonstrates how to utilise Layer Styles.
I applied the following Layer Styles to my rainbow type.
Note: Do not click OK until your have applied your last Layer Style.
Bevel and Emboss
Drop Shadow
Click OK.
8/ Optional Create a Perspective Shadow/Reflection from the type layer, as explained in my tutorial Here. Then crop away extraneous white areas using the Crop Tool.
9/ Optional Click to remove the Background layer’s visibility eye icon - and fill the transparent background with either, a Solid Colour, Gradient or Pattern, as described Here.
10/ Optional To finish, apply a glass filter - (I chose Eyecandy). Then from the top menu, choose Layer then choose Flatten Image, and save your work.
Chapter 3 of my tutorial here demonstrates how to apply Eyecandy 5 Impact’s Glass filter.
