This lesson demonstrates how to create and save patterns and how to install fonts into Windows XP’s Fonts folder.
Creating Iced Biscuit Type Here!
Permanently Save Backgrounds as Patterns Here!
Undo and Navigation Steps Two ways of undoing steps are from the top menu, Edit then Step Backwards. Alternatively, click a previous snapshot in the History Palette.
Navigate (zoom in and pan) your image using the Navigator Palette,
or the Zoom Tool.
Activate The Hand Tool by tapping the Spacebar, keeping the Spacebar pressed, pan your image in the usual way.
Installing Fonts - Windows XP Once it is downloaded, unzip the file, then right-click it and choose Copy from the drop-down menu. Now, left-click Windows Start menu, then click Control Panel, then click Windows XP Category View (not Classical View). Now, find (Windows XP’s) Fonts folder, (from right-side panel), left-click to open it, then right-click and choose Paste from the drop-down menu. The Plump font is ready to use in Photoshop.
Create and temporarily save seamless patterns Open a pattern you wish to convert to a seamless tile onto Photoshop’s workspace, then from the top menu, choose Filter then choose Pattern Maker. A Pattern Maker dialogue box will appear - now, click and hold down the left-side mouse button, and draw a rectangular selection marquee onto the pattern, near its edges, as shown below.
 |
Then click Generate.
Your pattern has been converted to a seamless tile and can now be permanently saved to Photoshop’s library, as described below.
Permanently save patterns as .pat files To permanently save a pattern - or set of patterns, as a .pat (Pattern) file; from the top menu, choose Edit then choose Preset Manager. In the subsequent Preset Manager dialogue box, click open the Preset Type menu, and left-click Patterns - as illustrated below.

The Preset manager will display the patterns you last used, and any recently saved patterns will be situated at the foot of the swatches. To save the current Pattern swatches as a complete set, hold down the Ctrl key, then simultaneously left-click to highlight the patterns of your choice.
Then click Save Set. Photoshop will then open a Save dialogue box, (it is where Photoshop stores your pattern files). Now, enter a name for your pattern, or patterns, into the File name tab, then click OK - illustrated by my screen capture here. The Preset manager dialogue box will then return, and to finish, click Done. Your patterns have been permanently saved, and can be backed up, if you wish. When you next open Photoshop, your new set will be available from the Pattern’s drop-down list. Illustrated by my screen capture here.
