This lesson demonstrates how to create selection marquees from custom shapes. To work along, download the start image Here. Unzip the file and open the (Whitley Bay) image onto Photoshop’s workspace.
Undo and Navigation Steps Two ways of undoing steps are from the top menu, Edit then Step Backwards. Alternatively, click a previous snapshot in the History Palette.
Navigate (zoom in and pan) your image using the Navigator Palette,
or the Zoom Tool.
Activate The Hand Tool by tapping the Spacebar, keeping the Spacebar pressed, pan your image in the usual way. 1/ Open your start image onto Photoshop’s workspace.
2/ Then from the top menu, choose Layer then New then choose Layer from Background, accept the settings - then click OK.
3/ Ensure your Paths palette is visible on the workspace; to do this, from the top menu, choose Window and click a tick in front of Paths.
4/ Now, draw a custom shape onto your image, as described in my Text inside a Shape tutorial - with the following settings - ensure Paths is active. Lesson Here.
5/ Right-click the layer in the Paths palette, and left-click Make Selection from the drop-down menu.
And you will see the following Make Selection dialogue box.
Accept the default settings, choose OK. Your custom shape has been converted to a selection marquee - remember, you can convert any custom shape into a selection marquee.
Your selection marquee can be treated as any other.
6/ When you are completely happy with your type; from the top menu, choose Layer then choose Flatten Image, and save your work as described Here.
Familiarise yourself with the tools and commands mentioned in this lesson; once mastered, you can have lots of fun creating individual curved type.
