This lesson demonstrates how to create stone type, with a border.
Undo and Navigation Steps Two ways of undoing steps are from the top menu, Edit then Step Backwards. Alternatively, click a previous snapshot in the History Palette.
Navigate (zoom in and pan) your image using the Navigator Palette,
or the Zoom Tool. 
Activate The Hand Tool by tapping the Spacebar, keeping the Spacebar pressed, pan your image in the usual way.  1/ Open a New document and set the attributes of your choice. If you you are not printing your work, set the Resolution to 72 Pixel/Inch; if you are printing, set it to around 300. Extend the New document’s grey workspace by dragging out one of its corners.
2/ Then from the top menu, choose Layer then choose New Fill Layer then choose Pattern. And click OK to the subsequent New Layer dialogue box.
3/ Navigate the subsequent Pattern Fill dialogue box, and double-left-click to activate a stone pattern of your choice. Then click OK.
4/ Then from the top menu, choose Layer then choose Flatten Image.
 5/ From the toolbar, activate the Horizontal Type Mask Tool.

Set your choice of type attributes into its Options bar; and apply your type. Then left-click and drag it a central position.
6/ Then click the Commit any current edits tick.
Your type will be then be surrounded by a selection marquee.
7/ Press Ctrl then J. This copies the area inside the selection marquee (the type) and pastes it as a new layer, in the Layers palette.
Note The selection marquee has been saved to an Alpha Channel, and is currently not visible - it is not necessary to retrieve it, on this occasion.
8/ Now, double-left-click Layer 1 (not over the name). This displays the Layer Style dialogue box. From its left-side menu, click Bevel and Emboss, and set the following attributes, (or experiment), then click OK.
Tip If you drag the Layer Style dialogue box to the right - or left, of your image, you will see how the settings effect your stone type.

Tip To further effect the type’s appearance, reduce the top layer’s Opacity - or experiment with different Layer Blend Modes.
9/ Apply a border To create a border, activate the Rectangular Marquee Tool.
And drag out a rectangular marquee, over the following area.
10/ Then from the top menu, choose Select then choose Inverse.
11/ Now, activate the Background (pattern fill) layer.
12/ Then press Ctrl then J. This copies the selected (frame area), and pastes it as a new layer, in the Layers palette.
13/ Now, apply your Chisel Hard Bevel and Emboss, (Layer Style) - just as you did in Chapter 8.
14/ Congratulations, you have created your stone type. To finish, from the top menu, choose Layer then choose Flatten Image, and save your work.
