This lesson demonstrates how to create a swirl design. Utilise the Brush Tool Tutorial.
Undo and Navigation Steps Two ways of undoing steps are from the top menu, Edit then Step Backwards. Alternatively, click a previous snapshot in the History Palette.
Navigate (zoom in and pan) your image using the Navigator Palette,
or the Zoom Tool.
Activate The Hand Tool by tapping the Spacebar, keeping the Spacebar pressed, pan your image in the usual way.
1/ Set the Foreground and Background to the colours you wish your swirl to be. Lesson.
2/ Then activate the Brush Tool, and (on the same layer),paint a design similar to mine below. These are my settings - Brush Size is 17.
Note The final swirl is dependant on the style of your crosses, therefore, experiment, and see how different brush applications (wider, thinner) effect the final swirl. I shortened the red cross slightly with the Eraser Tool.
3/ From the top menu, choose Filter then choose Distort then choose Twirl. A 999 Angle transformed my design to the following.
Note I finished by activating the Blur Tool, setting the brush large enough to completely cover my swirl. Then with an Opacity of 96%, I applied a blur to the swirl. This softened the ragged edges.
I also applied a perspective shadow - link here to save your work.
