This lesson demonstrates how to wrap a label around a tin. To work along, you will find the start images Here. Unzip the file, and open the contents onto Photoshop’s workspace, ready to work with.
My wrapping type around an apple tutorial can be found here.
Undo and Navigation Steps Two ways of undoing steps are from the top menu, Edit then Step Backwards. Alternatively, click a previous snapshot in the History Palette.
Navigate (zoom in and pan) your image using the Navigator Palette,
or the Zoom Tool.
Activate The Hand Tool by tapping the Spacebar, keeping the Spacebar pressed, pan your image in the usual way.
1/ Open your start images onto Photoshop’s workspace, then activate the Fruits (label) image.
2/ Then isolate just the label with a selection marquee by pressing (and holding) the Ctrl key, then left-clicking the label’s thumbnail, (in the Layers palette). Layers Tutorial.
3/ Now, activate the tin can image, and isolate the label area with a selection marquee. This can be carried out with The Pen Tool or the Polygonal Lasso Tool. I utilised the Polygonal Tool, with a Feather of 0. Polygonal Lasso Tool Lesson Here!
4/ Activate the selected label image, then from the top menu, choose Edit then choose Copy. Now activate the selected tin image, and from the top menu, choose Edit then choose Paste Into. Your label will now be pasted inside the selected area of the tin.
5/ Then from the top menu, choose Edit then choose Free Transform. Then resize the label so it fits the label area, snugly. Tip: Reducing the label’s Layer Opacity serves as a guide.

After you have resized the label, press the Enter key to commit the change, and you are ready for the next step.
6/ From the top menu, choose Edit then choose Transform then choose Warp. A nine-sectioned grid will immediately cover the label.
From the Warp’s Options bar, change the Warp to Arch.
Then grab the Bend slider and drag it all the way to Minus 25.
Note You need to repeatedly drag and click, until you reach Minus 25.
Tip Set the Bend to a higher (minus), value, if you think it is necessary.
Left-click, and drag the label to a central position, and when you are absolutely happy with the label’s position, press your Enter key to finalise the change.
Tip After the warp effect, your label may benefit from a sharpening filter. Lesson Here!
Congratulations, you have successfully wrapped a label around a tin, and it is time to tidy the image. Therefore, increase the label’s Layer Opacity to around 90%, then remove any rough areas with a low Strength of the Blur Tool. Additionally, remove the areas of the can that transcend the label, by first activating the tin can layer, then removing the exceeding areas with the Eraser Tool, using a small, hard brush. When you are completely happy with your work, from the top menu, choose Layer then choose Merge Visible, and fill the transparent background with either, a Solid Colour, Pattern or Gradient of your choice, as described Here.
